Dr. Jeffrey S. Cohen, DVM, DACVIM
For over 24 years, Dr. Cohen has been using flexible and rigid scopes for a variety of pet medical issues. Sometimes, he retrieves coins or small toys swallowed by overzealous puppies, or pulls blades of grass from the noses of sneezing cats; biopsies the small bowel of a cancer patient, or pulls a weed from the deep ear canal of a hunting dog, or a mineralized stone from a pet with a chronic urinary tract infection. For these patients, Dr. Cohen either avoided a surgery or performed a procedure that could not have been achieved without this equipment or his proficiency.
Dr. Cohen is an advocate of good oral hygiene for his patients as research confirms dental disease can predispose to other organ diseases (esp. heart, liver and kidney diseases). We are pleased to offer routine veterinary dentistry and dental radiography (X-Rays) under anesthesia for those patients that require extensive oral medical care, need the relaxation of anesthesia, or when combined with additional anesthesia procedures. Additionally, we are happy to give our clients the option of having their pet's teeth thoroughly cleaned and polished without the need for sedation or anesthesia when appropriate under a veterinarian's supervision. We are proud to have the highly credentialed Mr. Jason P. Carr of Healthy Smiles for Pets available to perform these procedures. This method is safe, gentle, and a cost-effective way to incorporate dental health care into your pet's lifestyle, helping to eliminating halitosis, gingivitis, tooth loss, and a cascading list of diseases. Mr. Carr prepares a detailed mapping of each tooth with a complete evaluation of the oral cavity soft tissues for each patient for Dr. Cohen's review to facilitate their dental health and overall wellness.

Laser Therapy is an affordable advanced modality for the treatment of inflammatory or painful conditions in animals here at The Newport Beach Veterinary Hospital without drugs or surgery. Cold laser therapy is a medical treatment that involves using a low-powered laser that does not produce heat, which is how it gets its name. This therapy is known by various other names, including low-level laser therapy, low-power laser therapy, soft-laser therapy, bio-stimulation laser therapy, and therapeutic laser. It has been used on humans as well as animals for more than 25 years. More than 3,000 scientific publications have been written validating it's effectiveness.
COLD LASER THERAPY is way cool! The laser therapy treatment offers a non-surgical, non-invasive option for animal patients with arthritis, back injuries, sprains, strains, inflammation, wound healing and acute and chronic pain. It is geared to help animals recover quicker, with less pain and less swelling.
Cold laser therapy is used on pets to treat pain and swelling and to speed up healing in muscles, tendons, skin, and other soft tissue. It also can reduce the amount of bacteria in affected areas.
Conditions that cold laser therapy is used to treat include muscular injuries, tendonitis, post-surgery sites, lesions from excessive licking, open wounds, spinal pain, and arthritis. Cold laser therapy won't cure arthritis, but should help reduce pain and swelling and increase the pet's range of motion. Increased range of motion allows a pet with arthritis to engage in more moderate and comfortable exercise.
|*Cold laser therapy has become a popular alternative to acupuncturebecause it that achieves the same stimulation without the insertion of a needle.|
